Manon Garritsen creates graphic textile wall art that enriches interiors in a subtle, understated way while also contributing to improved acoustics. Large, often geometric planes, a restrained and delicately nuanced use of colour, layering, and depth are characteristic elements of her work.
In her textile compositions, Manon explores the ongoing tension between nature and human intervention. An important source of inspiration emerged during the years she lived in Vancouver. There, she experienced the overwhelming presence of nature on a daily basis, which made her deeply aware of both its beauty and its vulnerability. This fascination with landscapes – the mountains, forests, rivers, and ocean – continues to form an important underlying layer in her work.
Drawing from her background as an urban designer, Manon also reflects on the ways people intervene in landscapes and ecosystems, and how these interventions shape our living environment. Where does the balance lie between the organic and the designed? Between what grows naturally and what is created by human hands? In her work, these worlds come together in layered textile compositions where organic forms and human order meet.
Manon works with high-end upholstery fabrics: surplus materials from design furniture manufacturers that are too small for production runs, yet still entirely new and of exceptional quality. By giving these fabrics a new context, she subtly questions our relationship with sustainability, value, and human consumption. Her works invite the viewer to look longer at detail, texture, and the fragile balance between nature and humanity.
Custom Work. Manon loves to create personal work. In close consultation with the client, Manon creates a work of art that compliments the interior in terms of color, size, and aesthetics. If desired, the abstract composition can express your personal story. Custom work will be professionally framed by master framer Monart in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
